Who knows where inspiration comes from. Perhaps it arises from desperation. Perhaps it comes from the flukes of the universe, the kindness of the muses.

For the first blog post, I thought I would talk about inspiration itself and my motivations for The Buttered Muse (where inspiration spreads!). I created this blog out of my own inspiration and in hopes that it would inspire others as well. But, what does it mean to be inspired? Where does inspiration come from?
Inspiration is defined as “the process of being mentally stimulated to do or feel something, especially to do something creative.” It also has a secondary meaning, “the drawing in of breath, an inhalation”. Inspiration can be translated as “breath of God”, and for good reason. When we feel an inkling of inspiration, it often feels otherworldly and beyond the scope of our human mind, as if it came from God herself.
Inspiration is a transformative and empowering force. It can bring forth new ideas and stimulate us to take action. But, can we stimulate ourselves to be inspired? Is inspiration something we can create or call upon at will? Not always. Sometimes we want so badly to feel inspired, but we may feel stuck in the mundane, unable to reach that creative genius level of inspiration. But, if we want to reach our goals we still have to take action, right?
Regardless of how inspired (or not inspired) we may feel on some ordinary Tuesday at 9am, we still have to put in the work to turn our inspirations into reality. And that is why I created this blog. To help us find a source of inspiration to keep going in spite of distraction, boredom, laziness, creative blocks, and anything else that gets in our way.
While we may not always be able to experience the divine inspiration associated with the Muses, there are many things we can do to inspire ourselves and each other on a daily basis. My goal for this blog is to be a platform for shared inspiration, big and small. It may come in the form of inspiring stories and personal experiences, art, music, poetry, photography, film, revolutionary ideas, new paradigms, and organizations for change.
I’m excited to see where this goes and the community we can build together.
So tell me readers, what inspires you?
